Program overview

This program will equip you with a thorough understanding of subjects concerning poverty, inequality, conflict, social change and justice. You will be able to demonstrate familiarity with political, economic and cultural dimensions of development thinking, including their interrelationships. With the knowledge and experience you gain from this program, you will be prepared to engage in active solutions to common development problems experienced by communities in various contexts. Alongside theoretical concepts, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in the field. Faculty will organize your internship with an international development agency and support you throughout the process.

An Offer of Admission to a qualified applicant to the Bachelor of Education (BEd) program will be determined by the BEd Admissions Committee after completing an admission interview. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program. Eligibility for an admission interview will be based on the following: An officially recognized 3-year (90 credit hours, 15 full credit) baccalaureate degree from an officially recognized degree-granting institution with university status. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed or who are completing a 4-year baccalaureate degree (120 credit hours, 20 full credits), or who have completed both a 3-year baccalaureate degree plus the equivalent of 30 credit hours at another officially recognized post-secondary institution (i.e. an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology). A GPA in the “B” range (minimum 70% or 2.7 on a 4.0 scale) or better, calculated on the applicant’s best 60 credit hours of undergraduate university courses. College diploma and/or certificate courses, whether transferred into the university degree program or not, will not be included in the GPA calculation. For those completing an undergraduate degree during the application process, only courses completed by the application deadline will be assessed. A conditional acceptance, pending receipt of your final, official transcript, may be offered. Proficiency in English. Submission of the BEd application, application fees, and all requested documentation, including, but not limited to, all official post-secondary transcripts, written statements, and resumé (curriculum vitae). Applicants who do not meet the above Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement may be selected for an admission interview if the Admissions Committee grants academic equivalence. English Language Requirement: Minimum scores: IELTS: 6.5, TOEFL (iBT): 90, TOEFL (PBT): 570
