The university was founded on 7 March 1878 by Bishop Isaac Hellmuth of the Anglican Diocese of Huron as the Western University of London, Ontario. London is Canada’s 11th largest city and an ideal environment to work, play and live.
Western is a co-educational university, with more than 24,000 students, and over 306,000 living alumni worldwide. Notable alumni include government officials, academics and business leaders.
Considered Canada’s most beautiful university, Western consists of Gothic-style buildings mixed with modern structures and provides an idyllic environment for our community of scholars. The main campus is surrounded by residential neighbourhoods and located near the Thames River.
There are a number of fraternities and sororities existing throughout the student community. The university has a number of athletic facilities open to their varsity teams and their students.
