Program overview

The School of Geography, Geology and the Environment is based in the William Smith Building which is at the heart of one of the most attractive campus universities in Britain, with an aim to provide an excellent environment for multi-disciplinary teaching and research. The School prides itself on the approachability and quality of its staff and has a strong commitment to providing high quality educational programmes, with a nationally leading reputation for innovation in teaching, recognised by many awards, invited talks and teaching innovation grants. Staff within the School have strong connections with the Higher Education Academy and have an impressive track record of receiving grants for developing innovative teaching activities and pedagogical research. The School has close links with the Faculty Research Office to provide an excellent research infrastructure, with many staff pursuing internationally recognised research as part of the Geography, Geology and Environment Research Centre. Research within the School covers a huge breadth, including social, cultural and physical geography, geology, geochemistry, applied and environmental geophysics, and environmental science and environment and sustainability. Additionally, the School has been awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze Award for commitment to recruiting and progressing women in science, engineering and technology (SET). The School also offers a range of services and facilities to education and business including the Keele University Digital Imaging and Illustration Service (KUDIS) and the Keele University Thin-section service.

Past students have progressed to gain employment within the Geography, Geology and Environment sector and so far, 14 of our graduates have continued onto PhD programmes.
