Overview
Nankai University was founded in 1919 by the famous patriotic educators Zhang Boling and Yan Xiu, adhering to the idea of saving the nation through education. During the Anti-Japanese war (1937-1945), the campus was heavily bombed by the Japanese invaders in 1937 and then moved south. In 1938, Nankai, Peking (Beijng) and Tsinghua (Qinghua) universities united in Kunming to form the renowned Southwest Associated University. It was described as The North Star of Higher Learning. In 1946, Nankai University moved back to Tianjin and was re-established as a national university.
