Program overview

All lecturers on this programme are counselling/psychotherapy practitioners engaged in current practice. This ensures that the latest theories and skills are taught to course participants. There are many different theoretical approaches to counselling and psychotherapy and you can be assured that you will be taught by lecturers with knowledge and skills relating to the taught subject. You will consider what counselling and psychotherapy are as well as some of the contributing subjects that will help to expand knowledge in this field. Following this, you will be introduced to the three major theories that underpin counselling/psychotherapy work in today's society (i.e. cognitive behavioural, humanistic and psychoanalytic theories). You will expand your knowledge and develop skills in relation to each of these theoretical areas, in addition to developing knowledge about yourself through personal development. These skills will be put into a variety of contexts and will be underpinned by an increasing awareness of ethics and ethical principles in the way that counsellors/psychotherapists work. You will also develop your knowledge in relation to the research process and to how knowledge is formed.
