In the third year, students can work closely with academic staff to produce a dissertation (an extended piece of research) on a topic of their choice. Modules may include: Identities in the Modern World, Forging the Modern State, Accessing Ordinary Lives: Interpreting And Understanding Voices From The Past, 1880 – Present, From Bright Young Things to Brexit: British Media and Society Since 1919, Empire and After: Colonialism and its Consequences, History of Chinese Medicine, and The US Since Reconstruction. The course is taught via a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials.
