In this course you will study one year at Monash University in Australia and one year at the partner university. On successful completion of the academic program at Monash and the academic program at the partner university, you will be eligible to graduate with the degrees from both institutions, awarded separately. The Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies is aimed at students with advanced bilingual proficiency. It seeks to develop your skills in translation and interpreting from/to English and another language, and your awareness of practical and theoretical approaches to translation/interpreting practice and studies. In this course, you will learn theoretical principles of interpreting and translation, interpreting and translation terminology, and the history of interpreting and translation. You will also discover the range of linguistic, cultural, social and other factors involved in translation work, as well as being able to apply translation theory to both your practice and research.

France - Jean Moulin Lyon III An Australian undergraduate degree with a major in French (or equivalent) with at least Credit (60%) average, or qualification/ experience or satisfactory substitute that the faculty considers being equivalent. The level of language competence should be the equivalent of at least three years’ university study. Italy - University of Trieste An Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent) with a major in Italian and a minor or high proficiency in a second language other than English (L2: French, German or Spanish) with at least Credit (60%) average, or qualification/ experience or satisfactory substitute that the faculty considers being equivalent. Japan - Kobe City University of Foreign Studies An Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent) with a major in Japanese, linguistics or literature or equivalent, with at least credit (60%) average, including Japanese language proficiency equivalent to the Common European Framework Reference (CEFT) C1 level (Proficient User – effective operational proficiency), or qualification/ experience or satisfactory substitute that the faculty considers to be equivalent.
