Обзор программы

The Criminal Justice curriculum closely examines: the nature and incidence of crime; theories of criminality and punishment; the interdependent operation of the various components of the criminal justice system, which comprise police and law enforcement, the courts and adjudication process, and corrections; the organizational and personnel management theories relevant to criminal justice management and administration; the use and application of the state-of-the art computers and information technologies; forensic psychology; the forensic sciences; the impact of major social problems on crime and the criminal justice system, and the growing implications of cyber-crime, terrorism, and transnational crime. Beyond the emphasis placed on acquiring the necessary knowledge and understanding of the causes, treatment, and prevention of crime, our School’s faculty is committed to developing the necessary skill sets and competencies sought after by today’s professionals. These include focusing on the areas of effective communication, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, ethical and principled behavior, research, and professional development. A unique and distinguishing feature of the School is its dedicated faculty who are accomplished academics, professionals, and leaders in their field. Because the faculty possesses professional, real-life work experience within the criminal justice system, they are able to skillfully integrate theory and academic constructs within the context of the legal, procedural, and operational realities of the criminal justice system. Stated colloquially by one of our recent graduates, our faculty can “talk the talk, and walk the walk.” Recognizing that learning is idiosyncratic and every student learns differently, our faculty subscribe to a holistic and multi-sensory approach to learning; one that regards every student as a unique individual that deserves personalized attention. Toward this end, students receive personal academic and career advisement from the faculty, and when necessary, are provided the necessary accommodations and resources to succeed in their studies.
