At Northumbria we make sure you have all the resources you need to develop your contemporary art practice. Your learning environment is centred around the studio and our workshops, supporting all mediums you might work in, be that print, digital print, dark room photography, moving image, sound, performance, painting, sculpture or installation. Events, exhibitions, talks, performances, placements and work opportunities are offered to you, and there are plenty of opportunities to connect with the exciting Newcastle art scene. This includes Newbridge, The Northern Charter, BALTIC 39, Workplace, Vane, and our in-house Gallery North. The North East is booming and our innovative partnerships with outstanding arts organisations such as BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art ensure you receive a compelling insight into the contemporary art world. Centred on contemporary art practice, you will learn from research-active staff, many of whom are leading artists, writers and curators with specialist knowledge across a wide range of media including sculpture, film, performance, painting, photography, sound and installation. Turner Prize and Northern Prize nominees are included in your teaching team, meaning you are learning from those at the top of their game. Our weekly guest lectures provide you with an invaluable opportunity to learn from visiting national and international artists, curators and writers. These sessions are often followed up with one to-one or group sessions which give you the chance to ask specific questions related to your learning. The practical elements of the course are fully supported by studio technicians, many of whom are professional artists in their own right.
