The M.S.W. program is integrated to provide a step-wise progression in student understanding of generalist and specialized practice. The first-year curriculum includes content in the eight foundation areas of policy, practice, human behavior, field, diversity, populations at risk, and promotion of social justice and values. It introduces the student to the components of generalist practice with systems of all sizes and provides an understanding of generalist practice that distinguishes between generalist and advanced content while supporting the integration of specialized knowledge and technologies into a generalist perspective. It also introduces the student to the principles of interdisciplinary collaboration, preparing them for work in interdisciplinary fields of practice.
