Overview

BCIT was first established as the British Columbia Vocational School in 1960. When BCIT opened its Burnaby campus in 1964, initial enrollment was 498 students. Since its foundation, the institution has been home to over 125,000 alumni. BCIT's international partnerships span training, education and research initiatives in South America, Central America, East Asia and Eastern Europe. It is provincially chartered through legislation in the College and Institute Act. The school operates as a vocational and technical school, offering apprenticeships for the skilled trades and diplomas and degrees in vocational education for skilled technicians and workers in professions such as engineering, accountancy, business administration, nursing, medicine, architecture, and law.

Entry requirements

High School completion (requirements are country-specific)

Two years of education in English in an English-speaking country with one of the following: English 12 (67%) or 3.0 credits of post-secondary English, humanities or social sciences (67%) from a recognized institution

Or one of the following: 

IELTS 6.5 

TOEFL 86 

PTE 60

Math: one of the following: Principles of Mathematics 12 (67%) or Applications of Mathematics 12 (73%) or Pre-Calculus 12 (67%)
