The first year is mainly an orientation year. Next to main instrument classes, practical training and projects, students will be attending theoretical classes. In the second year students knowledge and skills will be broadened and deepened, in both practical and theoretical subjects. Students will be studying the basis of musical entrepreneurship and teaching. In the third and fourth year a lot of time is invested in didactical subjects with a focus on work placements (internal, external and project internships). Students also can make their own choice in terms of optional modules, that fit their interest or capabilities. In the final year students focus on their main instrument, leading to a graduation concert.
The master's programme is divided into three semesters, with the first and second semesters focusing on general and advanced skills and knowledge in the field of data science, programming, professional skills, research skills and life sciences.
During the main phase students will choose their own path. This can be a direction focused on one of the following majors: Graphic & Interaction Design, Illustration & Animation Design, Interior Architecture & Design, Time Based Design or Product Design. Students can also choose their own direction, independent of any specific medium. In that case they combine various majors. In the fourth year students will carry out a joint final exam assignment as well as an independent exam project.
The first year is composed of two semesters, focusing respectively on healthcare and energy. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects related to sensor technology, including biology, chemistry, electronics, mathematics and computer programming, as well as extensive English and professional skills lessons. Students gain the knowledge required to enter the main phase of the programme.
The main phase of the Bachelor's programme begins in the second year. Subjects are organised on the themes around Monitoring and Control Systems, and Robotics and Signal Processing.
As of the third year, the Bachelor's programme will mainly take place in Assen. The third year provides students with more in-depth knowledge regarding sensors. The socially relevant nature of each semester becomes more apparent by solving sensor related problems for external costumers. Students are also able to make the programme more personal during the third year.
In the final year of the Bachelor's programme students can specialise in one of the following areas: Research and Development or Entrepreneurship. The focus area Research and Development strengthens the practical skills required for system engineering and integration jobs when employed by a company with sensor-intensive interests. The focus area Entrepreneurship strengthens the entrepreneurial skills required for starting a new business in the sensor application field.
The first two semesters students will attend different modules that will give them a solid basis for their thesis and their career in de professional field. The curriculum compromises the following modules (5 ECTS each):
Overview of Energy Transition
In Dialogue about Energy
Energy Technologies and Systems
New Business Models
Community Building
Project I
Adaptive Leadership in Energy Transition
Society in Transition
Governance
Spatial Transformation and Sustainable Energy Communities
Research Methodology
Project II
In the third semester students will work on their thesis project which comprises of applied research with a focus on investigating a local energy transition initiative and further developing your professional skills. The thesis project can take place in the Netherlands or abroad. Finding a suitable thesis topic is facilitated by the research programmes taking place at the Energy Transition Centre (EnTranCe) and the Energy Academy Europe (EAE). These programmes provide many opportunities for research into a real life energy transition issue. At the end of this semester students will defend your thesis report including their personal reflection report.
During the core semester, students acquire a solid foundation in the technical and engineering aspects related to innovative energy system design and implementation and their various related interdisciplinary aspects. Theoretical courses which also examine the socioeconomic issues surrounding the deployment of these technologies are supported by laboratory workshops.
In the second semester you specialise in a chosen technology at a different university. The specialisations are taught in English.
The third and last semester students will apply their knowledge and skills in a research project at a company or a research centre. Based on this research students will write their thesis under the supervision of a (core) professor, a professor of the specialisation and a professor from the project provider.
The Bachelor of Fine Art is a four-year programme. Each year consists of two semesters of 16 weeks each, concluded with a group work review and a project week or excursion week. Central to course curriculum is students studio work. Students will learn to reflect on their own work and that of others.
Students are introduced to the principal areas of business in preparation for their second year abroad. These areas include Marketing & Sales, Finance & Accounting, Supply Chain Management and Human Resource Management. Students will experience how these areas are interrelated through Business Labs and integrated cases. The Business Labs are simulation environments in which students work in groups in a business-like set up.
The program has a competency based, hands-on approach. As part of a team, students will design communication strategies for clients needing results. Academic achievement is not enough to be successful in this program. Students will have to prove themrself as a creative problem solver, able to measure up to professional standards as well as academic excellence.
The first year serves as a general introduction to the world of communication. Students will develop English-language skills relevant to communication professionals. Throughout the year they will develop intercultural competencies and media skills and be introduced to research methods and communication theories.
In the second year students will develop a media campaign and explore the theory of intercultural communication to help organisations establish and maintain international and intercultural relations. The third year is the year abroad. Students will do an internship and fill your elective semester by either choosing a minor or studying abroad at one of partner universities around the world. During the final year students will take on the role of a junior consultant and work on an issue for an organisation.
