Program overview
The six pillars of Tourism Management
Two areas of expertise: tourism and recreation
In the 1st year you will concentrate on both areas of expertise, so that you are properly acquainted with them. In the 2nd year you choose the topics that appeal to you within any of the two fields.
Practically apply what you have learned
We want you to be in touch with future employers as much as possible. You will therefore visit many companies, get guest lectures from professionals and solve current issues for clients in the field.
Solve actual issues
Every quartile you will focus on one major tourism issue. To solve this, you need more than just expertise in tourism, but also knowledge about communication, business and research.
Get Ready for a Smart World!
Tourism and technology are inextricably linked. Think of websites comparing airline tickets, apps serving as personal travel agents and customer service systems that generate automatic replies.
Traineeships across the world
We have built up a large international network of companies that offer traineeships for Saxion students. Our network guarantees the quality of your traineeship in terms of learning opportunities.
Working with international students and teachers
You will be working closely with both students from different cultures and lecturers. Your lecturers will support you in developing knowledge and skills and will continuously challenge you.

Requirements
Exams:
To be admitted to the programme, your secondary-level qualification should be at least the equivalent of the Dutch HAVO certificate. Saxion will assess the compatibility of your education with that Dutch certificate. It is recommended that you have studied subjects such as economics, languages and/or management at secondary-school level. We also require either an Academic IELTS score of 6.0 or a TOEFL score of 550. Unfortunately, without either of these test results, your application cannot be considered.
For all Saxion pathways the following general entry requirements are necessary:
The student must demonstrate that they have the ability, motivation and determination to successfully complete the course;
The student must be admissible to Higher Education through a diploma of secondary education/high school diploma with good results such as for Dutch students VWO, HAVO or MBO and for foreign students diplomas which are equivalent to e.g. the German Abitur (algemeine Hochschulreife), the French Baccalaureate or the American High School (top stream or plus 1 year's college);
The student must have sufficient English language skills for the specific course.
The students’ qualifications will be assessed by the Admission Officer of the specific study programme. You need to submit diplomas and, depending on the study programme of your choice, you might need to submit a curriculum vitae, letter of motivation and/or complete an intake interview.
Career opportunities
Tourism is one of the world’s largest sectors The 2017 UNWTO report revealed that this sector accounted for 10% of the global GDP and was responsible for generating one in ten jobs. A Tourism Management degree can be seen as a ticket to a wide range of exciting careers.
