Program overview
Develop a comprehensive understanding of human movement, including motor development, skill acquisition, and exercise physiology as you undertake learning experiences designed to be fun while encouraging team work.Put theory into practice with more than 100 days of teaching placements, including a full school term, in your fourth year. You'll gain experience in primary, secondary and special needs. Year 12 or equivalent English, Mathematics (A, B or C) and one of Biology, Chemistry or Physics. 6.5 overall and a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-band of the IELTS
Career opportunities
Bachelor of Health, Sport and Physical Education (Hons) graduates typically work as teachers of physical education, health education or junior science in secondary schools.
Graduates are eligible to register with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT), as well as other authorities, to teach in schools around Australia and worldwide.
QCT has a balanced and thorough registration process, which involves looking beyond just tertiary qualifications (QCT will also assess your suitability to teach by conducting a criminal history check and similar).
Once registered, graduates typically work in schools (both private and public) in roles including:
school teacher
head of department
learning support teacher
education advisor
student or teacher mentor
guidance counsellor.
Career opportunities also exist in non-school settings (such sport and recreation organisations, or sporting associations) in roles such as:
health promotion
sports coaching
corporate health
outdoor education
recreation management.
Graduates can also choose to continue developing their knowledge by enrolling in postgraduate programs – in areas including clinical exercise physiology, sports coaching, physiotherapy, education, public health, or another field.
