Graduates are competent in basic and advanced computing skills especially in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software; various GIS and remote sensing operations; and implementation and management of GIS projects. The program also covers applications of GIS and remote sensing technologies to various areas; resource analysis through remote sensing and airphoto interpretation; expert systems and decision support systems; and research, both applied and theoretical, in the field of spatial information systems.
This program can be done
Bachelor degree in science (mathematics, physics, computer science), environmental science, environmental management, geographical science, geology, surveying, geometrics, engineering, or an approved discipline. UQ or equivalent GPA of 4.5 or above on a 7 point scale. 6.5 overall and a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-band of the IELTS.
GIS is an analysis tool that's used in a wide range of areas, including health, city government, transportation, urban planning, business marketing, geology and archaeology. It's used to route emergency and fleet vehicles, determine the best places for new wineries and other businesses, and conducting demographic, market, and political research.
