Overview

The University has one of the best first-year retention rates in Scotland for 2016-2017 entrants: around 97% of our students continue in their studies at St Andrews; less than 1% transfer to other universities, and less than 2% drop out of higher education altogether. The University of St Andrews secured a Gold Award in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) based on the quality of teaching and the undergraduate experience. The TEF panel judged that St Andrews, "delivers consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students. It is of the highest quality found in the UK." The University was named UK University of the Year in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020. It was also rated first in Scotland and second in the UK by the Guardian University Guide 2020.

Entry requirements

The University offers alternative entry routes for applicants who come from areas where they receive limited applications and who are unable to obtain the required grades, or for those who are returning to education after an extended period of time.

Scholarship & funding

St Andrews is committed to attracting the very best students, regardless of financial circumstances. Scholarships reward academic excellence and are designed to provide assistance to help students support themselves during their time at university.
Applicants with refugee status, humanitarian protection, discretionary leave and asylum seeker status are encouraged to apply for financial support scholarships. Your tuition fee status will determine which scholarships are available to you.
The scholarships and funding catalogue offers a searchable directory of funding options offered by the University towards fees, living expenses, travel and initiatives.

Student life

Everyone studies and prefers to work in different ways, which is why the Library provides a number of spaces across the University to offer a range of environments in different locations.
