Overview

City's tradition of providing high quality education relevant to business and the professions dates back 160 years. For many of the university's graduates, time spent at City laid the groundwork for leadership, innovation and excellence that have changed the world we live in.

Based in the heart of London, close to the Square Mile and Tech City and in the design hub of Clerkenwell, we are proud of our heritage and links with business:

  • The Lord Mayor of London is university Rector
  • City of London livery companies are among our founders and long-standing supporters
  • Professional bodies and organisations help develop university courses and facilities, offering excellent opportunities for work experience, enhancing career prospects.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate courses

To enter a degree course at City, students must satisfy City's general minimum requirement of passes in two subjects at GCE A-level or equivalent. University accepts a wide range of equivalent qualifications to A-levels.

Students must also meet the specific requirements of the course they're applying for, which may be higher than City's minimum requirements.

The actual offer you receive may differ from the requirement listed on the course page. As many of university courses are very competitive, possessing the minimum requirement does not guarantee admission.

Postgraduate master’s courses

Applicants for all postgraduate degrees should normally hold a university Honours degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate subject.

English language requirements

City cannot accept any other qualifications in addition to these:

  • IELTS Academic: Minimum 5.5 in each of the test areas. The test needs to have been taken no longer than two years from the date that the CAS is generated. City, University of London is currently accepting IELTS from all test centres and not just those identified by UKVI on the SELT list
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59 in each area (writing, speaking listening and reading).
  • TOEFL iBT and TOEFL at home solution: 72 overall with no less than 17 in Writing and Listening, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking. The test needs to have been taken no longer than two years from the date that the CAS is generated.
