Actuarial Science is the discipline that assesses risk in insurance, finance as well as other industries using mathematical and statistical methods. The concentration prepares students by building a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and other areas of relevance to insurance and consulting industries. Financial Mathematics sometimes called Computational Finance or Financial Engineering is a relatively new area of mathematics that provides the necessary theory and tools for financial analysts who are also known in the financial industry as quants. Financial analysts work for financial institutions, pension funds, and insurance companies. They advise businesses and individuals on making investment decisions. They assess the performance of stocks, bonds, and other types of investments. With the rapid advances in financial markets grew the demand for analytically skilled quants able to understand pricing models for derivatives and other sophisticated securities. According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics employment of financial analysts is expected to grow 23 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. A growing range of financial products and increasing complexity of investment portfolios are expected to lead to strong employment growth. Additionally, newly emerging markets in developing regions are providing new investment opportunities, which in turn require expertise in geographic regions where those markets are located. The QUEST Program has received widespread recognition for its five-year combined degree design. This unique program provides students the opportunity to pursue professional studies for teacher preparation leading to state teacher licensure while earning a bachelor's degree in a liberal arts or science major and a Master's of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree.

An applicant must have graduated from an accredited or government recognized secondary school or have received his or her General Education Development (GED) certificate. It is recommended (but not required) that an applicant completes the equivalent of 16 academic (university preparatory) units in secondary school. For transcripts not in English, a notarized or certified English translation must accompany the original transcript. Two letters of recommendation are required. For students currently enrolled in a school or post-secondary institution, at least one must be written by a teacher or school counselor. If the applicant has been out of school for several years, a recommendation form an employer may be submitted. An applicant whose native language is not English is required to submit the results of a test of English Proficiency to the Office of International Admissions. Students from Canada, Bermuda, the Bahamas, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand do not need to submit test scores. SAT or ACT scores are NOT required for admission consideration.
