The electrical engineering program at Memorial includes a mandatory, integrated co-operative education program in which students gain up to two years of practical work experience. You will take courses in hardware, electromagnetics, power systems, electric machines, communications, computer programming and control systems. You will participate in design projects throughout the program, including a team capstone design project in your final year that may span electrical and computer engineering and involve students from both majors.
The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science offers graduate diplomas and MASc, MEng, and PhD degrees in the various engineering disciplines, including Arctic, Civil, Communications, Computer, Electrical, Energy Systems, Geotechnical and Structural, Mechanical, Mechanics and Materials, Mechatronics, Ocean and Naval Architecture, Oil and Gas, Process, Safety and Risk, and Thermofluids engineering. Faculty expertise encompasses a wide cross-section of specialties and backgrounds; many faculty members have broad industrial experience and complement their teaching and research programs with consultancy services.
MEng – The MEng program involves courses and a thesis, and can be completed in two years of full-time study.
In the Department of English you will encounter ideas, both new and old, and texts, both experimental and traditional. You will read some of the best works in literature and culture, and you will engage in provocative conversations about meaning, literary history, the future, your identity and your place in the world. All of our programs are designed to help you think critically, read closely, and write effectively.
The Department of English offers select courses on Memorial’s Harlow Campus in England. Live theatre, literary landscapes, social justice in the arts: you can find all that and more across the pond at Harlow.
The English Department is a dynamic and productive community of 23 full-time faculty members engaged in active research programs, graduate supervision, and publication of literary scholarship and creative writing.
The following ten research clusters represent particular concentrations of strength and focus, and can help connect you to the faculty members working in those areas: American, Canadian, Colonial and Postcolonial, Creative, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries, Environmental and Energy Humanities, Medieval and Early Modern, Newfoundland and Labrador, North Atlantic, and Studies of Visual Narrative. The diversity of research interests among our faculty fosters a wonderfully vibrant and supportive research environment for all members of the Department, from faculty to students.
MA – The MA program offers both course and thesis options. The course option can be completed in one year of full-time study while the thesis option can be completed in two years.
Gender studies at Memorial allows you to develop a framework for thinking about power relations connected to social constructions of gender, race, class, sexuality, ability, age and nationality through multiple perspectives and theories.
The Master of Gender Studies degree allows students to critically examine – at an advanced level – how gender shapes our identities, our social interactions and our world. Students will incorporate into their study frameworks for thinking about power relations and the ways those relations are shaped and challenged by intersecting constructions of gender, race, class, sexuality, age, ability and nationality.
The university offers major, minor and honours programs leading to either a bachelor of arts (BA) or bachelor of science (B.Sc.) in geography. In addition, joint programs are offered in:
computer science/geography (B.Sc. major and honours)
Earth sciences/geography (B.Sc. honours)
