The OSU College of Business has rolled out our restructured design major: Design and Innovation Management. This degree will allow students to tailor their Design and Innovation Management major to meet their career needs; students will choose one of three options available under the major: apparel design, interior design and design management. This program will allow students to graduate in four years. Within the new Design and Innovation Management Major we have completed a curricular redesign of our apparel design option. With an emphasis on outdoor and performance wear, and an integration of business principles, graduates are well poised to enter the apparel industry that dominates the Pacific Northwest. All students will follow the common design core designed to be completed in two years and provides a comprehensive foundation of design concepts. The major still requires admission to the OSU COB pro-school.
Ecological Engineering is the design of sustainable systems consistent with ecological principles that integrate human activities into the natural environment to the benefit of both. This approach emphasizes diversity, resilience and adaptation to maintain sustainability. Ecological Engineering deals with both fundamental processes and engineering applications on scales that range from microscopic to watersheds and beyond. This discipline is rapidly developing as an important new area of engineering based on the science of ecological systems, with a number of dedicated journals, national and international professional societies, and new application areas emerging over the last decade. The Biological and Ecological Engineering Department at OSU has considerable expertise in this area and is among the national leaders in this discipline.
Organizations want employees who can think, communicate orally, write, and solve problems, and who are comfortable with quantitative analysis. The General Economics Option perfectly prepares students to meet these demands.
The Education Double Degree program enables students to earn two undergraduate degrees concurrently – one in their chosen field and one in education. Our nation’s communities, schools, and organizations will demand a minimum of 2.2 million new teachers and educational leaders over the next decade and these educators must be prepared to meet today’s educational challenges. New, more accessible undergraduate options in the Education Double Degree provide a means for addressing gaps. Become an educational leader in subject areas including family and consumer sciences, health, language arts, mathematics, the sciences, and social studies.
The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University provides a comprehensive, state-of-the-art education that prepares our students to be successful in engineering practice, advanced studies and research.
An English degree is about more than the book. English majors learn to see complex problems in their full richness and don’t take the first answer, or the simplest answer, as truth. In our courses, all kinds of texts – from medieval poems to postmodern novels, adapted screenplays to literary criticism itself – appear as windows into the cultures and conditions in which they were produced. English majors develop habits of mind attuned to the reasons why people do what they do and write what they write. Our graduates are engaged, empathetic people pursuing a creative, critical, and useful degree.
All students admitted to the MA/English program will automatically receive a standard Graduate Teaching Assistantship contract, which provides full tuition remission and stipend of approximately $12,300 per year to cover living expenses. First-year GTAs teach WR 121, OSU’s first-year composition course. Based on School needs, first and second-year GTAs with appropriate training may be eligible to teach selected sections of advanced academic writing.
he arts and humanities (philosophy, history, religious studies, literature, music, theater, etc.) are conceptual discourses that work in the world of creative imagination, conceptual analysis, and historical and moral reasoning. In contrast, the sciences, natural resource sciences, and social sciences (zoology, chemistry, fisheries, sociology, anthropology, etc.) are empirical discourses that work in the world of experimental and observational data, models, and the scientific method.
Students can earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. The undergraduate curriculum is founded on a sound background in basic sciences (chemistry, physics, biology) and mathematics (calculus, differential equations), and strengthened with engineering science fundamentals (engineering mechanics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer). Upper division coursework in environmental engineering includes analysis and design of water and wastewater treatment systems, hazardous substance management and regulations, air pollution control technologies, and fate and transport of chemicals in the environment. All students participate in a capstone-design experience meant to foster interaction and communication between different engineering disciplines while applying environmental engineering principles to a real-world problem.
The Environmental Sciences degree builds on the interdisciplinary strengths in the natural and social sciences at OSU. Our students learn broadly about environmental sciences from a variety of perspectives, while deeply exploring one area of specialization. Experiential learning is a key part of the degree program since participating in research or an internship provides an opportunity to actively engage in the field of environmental sciences outside the classroom. Students can choose to pursue either a major or a minor, both of which can be earned on campus in Corvallis or online through OSU Ecampus.
