Program overview
In Year 1, you’ll learn about crime scene investigation and the importance of preserving evidence. You’ll cover relevant biological and chemical principles, as well as photography and other crime scene documenting techniques. In Year 2, you’ll focus on analysis and measurement. You’ll expand on the principles of criminalistic methods, forensic chemistry, forensic biology and DNA profiling.
For BSc (Hons) students, there is an opportunity to undertake a 12-month placement. You may choose to work with Staffordshire Police Forensic Department or with other forensic providers and laboratory based employers.
In Year 3, BSc (Hons) students put forensic knowledge into practice by working on simulated crime scenes. You’ll also complete an independent research project in a current forensic field.

Exams:
Applicants with minimum one year of a Bachelor at a recognised institution, with an average score of at least 3.5 out of 5 may be considered for entryInternational Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with 28 points overall OR
Successful completion of a relevant International Foundation Year from a recognised UK Institution
IELTS score of 6.0, with 5.5 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Career opportunities
Graduates have secured roles as forensic scientists at national providers, including Key Forensics and LGC. Other destinations include crime scene officers for various police constabularies, forensic technicians, fingerprint analysts, public service organisations, and teaching whilst others move on to postgraduate study.
