This Master’s track teaches cutting-edge, quantitative methods (including observations, modelling and big data analysis) and how to apply these methods to global challenges. Specific attention is given to the identification of where scientific knowledge falls short of contributing to solutions for the grand challenges we are facing.

1. Prior education Students are eligible to apply if they have a Bachelor's degree in Earth Sciences, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or in Future Planet Studies with a natural science major. Admission with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Computer Science is also possible but only with proven interest in the field of ecosystem science. All students go through an admissions procedure in which gaps in the students' knowledge and skills are identified. If necessary, students must be willing to study extracurricular course material, depending on your background, before starting the track. 2. Grade point average You have an overall grade point average (GPA) equivalent to at least: 3.0 (American system) 2.1 (a second class upper/division one degree in the British system) C (ECTS-system) Admission, however, will not be granted based on a sufficient grade point average alone. 3. English language proficiency Your ability to write and speak in English must be at an academic level. To prove your level of English please provide us with your scores of one of the following tests: the TOEFL Test, the test of the International English Language Testing Service (Academic IELTS) a Cambridge Examination Score.
Graduates of the Master's programme in Earth Sciences are trained professionals with excellent international career opportunities within or outside the sphere of Earth Sciences.
