Program overview

In this Master’s programme, the Amsterdam Law School and the Amsterdam Business School join forces to offer a challenging curriculum the contents of which was chosen in close consultation with major jobs market representatives. The main objective of the programme is to educate students in both Law and Finance – in accordance with the demands pointed out by industry leaders. The combination provides our graduates with a head start in the jobs market over other students.

The Master’s in Law and Finance is a selective programme. In order to apply you need to meet the following entry requirements: You must have an educational background in the Law (at least 60 EC); Demonstrate proficiency in English; Demonstrate basic mathematics proficiency (we provide an online test); and Explain your motivation in a cover letter, as well as submitting a C.V.

Career opportunities

This Master’s programme raises the bar for law graduates. Because of the high demand for lawyers with extensive knowledge of finance, we believe that career prospects for graduates of this programme will be excellent. Graduates of the Master’s who have also obtained a full Bachelor’s degree in Law qualify for admission to the Dutch bar and judiciary. Graduates with this Master’s will typically find employment as: Lawyers, in the Corporate/Transactional and Financial practices departments of law firms; Legal and compliance experts in the financial industry (which includes banks, insurance companies, pension funds, etc); Legal Counsel for in-house legal departments; Legal and compliance officers for financial supervisory authorities; Consultants in positions requiring legal and financial knowledge; Academic researchers in law and finance; or in similar jobs that require a combination of legal and finance knowledge.
