The Master of Social Work degree requires candidates to complete a thesis on a full or part-time basis. The MSW is particularly aimed at practitioners with specialist practice, supervisory, management, or policy analysis and development responsibilities. The programme of study and research can be designed to meet each candidate’s professional needs and interests. The degree may be awarded with Distinction or Merit. The MSW degree requires students to complete SOWK 695 MSW Thesis on a full or part-time basis. It will take 1 year full-time, or up to 3 years part-time. Students can begin their thesis at the beginning of any month.

The MSW is accessible only to those students who have obtained a professional qualification in Social Work. This means they will have completed fieldwork requirements. To enrol in the MSW, students must have completed one of the following: a Bachelor of Social Work with First Class or Second Class Honours Division I any bachelor’s degree and the Graduate Diploma in Social Work any bachelor's degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work with a B+ Grade Point Average or above (or equivalent) completed a qualifying course prescribed by the Head of the Department of Social Work and Human Services, and approved by the Dean of Arts (Academic) of a standard to the prerequisite courses. English language requirements: IELTS Academic: an average score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking TOEFL iBT: total minimum score of 90, minimum score of 19 in reading, writing and listening. TOEFL PBT: with a minimum score of 575 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5 Pearson Test of English (Academic): with an overall score of 58 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50
