Program overview

Radiological technologists are experts in the use of electromagnetic radiation, such as X-rays, for the diagnosis of injury and disease. Just about every Canadian will benefit from the work and care of a radiological technologist at some point in their lives - whether it's for a sprain, broken ankle or an annual preventative care mammogram. Radiological technologists use a variety of technologies such as: Radiography, the commonly used X-ray for the chest, bones, joints, spine and gastrointestinal system; Mammography, for early detection of breast cancer; Bone Mineral Densitometry for detection and follow up of osteoporosis; Angiography, to examine the heart and vascular (veins and arteries) system; Fluroscopy, real-time, moving images of internal structures; Computed Tomography (CT) scanning used to obtain crosssectional virtual slices through anatomical structures and to create 3-dimensional reconstructions.
