Overview

Built on the principles of equity, excellence and engagement, the University of Newcastle has a reputation as a world-class institution making an impact within its own region, throughout Australia and across the globe. Research is world-class and diverse. Degree programs are internationally recognised and our partnerships and collaborations drive innovation. The alumni are leaders and our students are preparing to make a difference in the world. The university is ranked in the top three per cent of universities world-wide and we have only just turned 50.Admission to degree programs is applicable only after passing the Foundation program.

Entry requirements

Admission to undergraduate degree programs usually requires successful completion of a senior secondary school qualification similar to the Higher School Certificate (HSC), the highest educational award in New South Wales schools. Further education like diplomas and university study can also be assessed for admission.

Some of our programs have additional requirements like an audition, or portfolio.

Students who have completed university-level courses at other institutions may receive credit for that coursework at the University of Newcastle. These credit transfers could help you complete your degree earlier or study new subjects rather than repeat prior learning.

For international students who do not meet either the language or academic requirements for entry into an undergraduate program, a range of pathway courses are available.

Scholarship & funding

There are a number of scholarships available to international students. They include financial support for students from diverse backgrounds, rewards for academic excellence and funding for research students.

Please note that eligibility and availability for each scholarship varies and is subject to change at any time. Follow the links for more information.  For more information

Student life

Much like life itself, your time at University is better spent with friends – and one of the best ways to make new mates is to join a club.
The University has a selection of activities and experiences that are not only great fun but can make you a more appealing candidate in the workforce. You also have a wealth of opportunities to meet new people and make lifelong connections and friendships through volunteering, being involved in a mentorship program or joining – or even starting – a club.
