Program overview

Experience the cultural richness of the ancient world when you focus on foundational periods for these cultures—when Greeks and Romans were asking themselves profound questions still important today. What is a citizen? A family? A god? A nation? What is beauty? What is justice? What is freedom? You will explore the social, political, artistic and religious aspects of the ancient Mediterranean world. Our topics courses change their content from year to year and add to the diversity of our offerings. Courses in Greek and Latin will give you access to the great literary works of the ancient world as they were written, but no prior knowledge is required. Direct contact with the great ideas and achievements of distant but enduring cultures enlightens you in the choice of your own role in an ever-more complicated world. Popular degree combinations in recent years have included History, English, and political Science, though almost any other combination is also possible.
