The Bachelor of Mathematics degree teaches highly transferable skills in problem-solving, data analysis, probability and variability, mathematical modelling, logistics and logic. The degree is flexible, so you can take up to one third of your subjects from other disciplines to expand your career options. Other opportunities include scholarships from corporate partners, summer scholarships and undergraduate research projects with academic staff, access to programs offered by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) and inter-university courses via our Access Grid Room. The Mathematics major gives you quantitative skills that are in demand across all industries and serves as initial preparation for employment as a professional mathematician. You will study subjects in applied mathematics, pure mathematics, and statistics. You will learn problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills that are in demand across all government and private sectors.

Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia. In order to succeed in your chosen course, it is assumed you have completed relevant subjects in your senior high school studies or other relevant qualifications. This is particularly important for degrees which have a strong basis in Mathematics or Science. You must be able to demonstrate skills in English to satisfy course entry requirements.
