Program overview

Analyse and understand armed conflict During the course of study you will learn to understand and analyse how various types of armed conflict arise and develop, and what conditions exist, if any, for lasting peace. During the first semester, you will partake in a theoretical and historical overview of peace and conflict studies, the role of the United Nations, the role of war propaganda, enemy images, and the media. Theory and method During the programme, you will become familiar with the key analytical concepts and theories within peace and conflict studies. You will learn, from different theoretical and methodological perspectives, to analyse armed conflicts. For instance, you will take a course in conflict analysis at the end of which you will analyse an armed conflict using the tools that you have acquired. Human living conditions and diversity It is important to understand the human dimension in all this, which is the reason you will spend considerable time learning about human living conditions and diversity. You will do so largely within the framework of your anthropological studies. Finally, you will take a course to study the institutional and cultural conditions that exist to achieve lasting peace.
