Program overview

Year 1 In your first year, you'll complete five courses which include topics in adult, child and adolescent clinical psychology, theory and practice in criminal psychology, and a research project. You can also take courses from other postgraduate programmes, which you'll need to discuss with the director of the clinical programme and the director of the other programme. Year 2 In your second year, you'll complete a 60-point practicum that includes taught workshops and working with clients in our clinic. At the same time, you'll be working on your Master's thesis. If you choose to do a PhD instead, you'll take leave from the programme to complete your thesis and then rejoin it in this second year. Year 3 The final year of the PGDipClinPsyc is an advanced practicum, or internship, and two core courses. You'll spend 1,500 hours, or four days a week, in a clinical placement for your internship, and attend classes one day a week. Your courses will cover how to carry out clinical neuropsychological assessments in adults, interventions and therapies for adult, child and family problems using cognitive and behavioural treatment techniques, and the practice of clinical psychology with offenders in the adult criminal justice system.
