Program overview
The Fairleigh Dickinson University Graphic Design Program provides students with the opportunity to succeed as a designer while developing a strong business foundation for their careers. We offer three areas of concentration: Print Design, Web Design and Illustration plus a variety of real world jobs with the FDU Design Studio and FDU sponsored internships.
The Print Design concentration places a strong emphasis on concept development, technical skills, aesthetics and problem solving. The Web Design concentration blends technical skill with design expertise, preparing students for a variety of careers in the interactive industry. The Illustration concentration allows students to focus on developing a personal style while practicing their craft. Imagination and experimentation are encouraged as students learn techniques in traditional and digital media.
The Fairleigh Dickinson University Graphic Design Program has held several workshops with guest speakers to allow students to learn from outside designers in the field. After years of hard work, students take a capstone course and create a thesis subject that is displayed on the night of IMAGES, Fairleigh Dickinson's Art and Graphic Design Showcase. Contests provide students with an opportunity to design for competition (Black History Month, Earth Day, WamFest). They then get to take part in the celebratory exhibits.

Job requests come in, students compete for jobs, write proposals and establish timelines. Students work with clients, students learn to take a job from concept to completion and act as a project manager. Students finish work for clients-gaining experience, portfolio pieces, and credits toward graduation.
