Program overview
Our Bachelor of Education (Secondary) qualifies you to work with students in Years 7-12. The junior secondary years (Years 7-10) are an exciting phase of learning, while the senior secondary years (Years 11-12) are a critical time for young people as they develop their plans for post-secondary education and work.
JCU’s Bachelor of Education (Secondary) prepares you to work in all environments, and has an emphasis on rural and remote education, which the Queensland Government identifies as a workforce priority area. Teachers in these locations can access a range of additional benefits, including generous financial incentives, accelerated transfer points and, in some locations, subsidised accommodation
The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is an undergraduate degree which normally takes four years of full-time study or part-time equivalent. You will train to teach in two teaching areas (TA) and two related learning areas (LA) for secondary schools. Our support staff help you choose your specialist areas and you will learn from lecturers who are experienced, knowledgeable and inspiring.
All students are required to attend a compulsory 5-day on-campus intensive Professional Orientation Program at either the Cairns or Townsville campuses in their final year of study.
Please note that not all teaching areas are available in Cairns.
All students must meet minimum literacy standards upon entry and upon completion as required by the Queensland College of Teachers.
