Program overview

This 120-credit Bachelor of Arts program is organized around a progression of required courses in “Principles of Chemistry,” “Organic Chemistry,” “Quantitative Analysis,” “Inorganic Chemistry,” and “Physical Chemistry,” plus two electives chosen from: “Spectroscopic Identification of Organic Compounds,” “Analytical Instrumentation,” “Advanced Organic Chemistry,” “Advanced Inorganic Chemistry,” “Basic Biochemistry” or Senior Research. The B.A. in Chemistry provides an excellent foundation for further study at the graduate level. Students preparing for careers in medicine, dentistry and other health fields can generally meet professional schools’ entrance requirements by combining the B.A. in Chemistry with appropriate Biology courses. LIU Post’s Pre-Medical Sciences Advisement Committee advises students on admission requirements for entry into professional schools and how to prepare for the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test), DAT (Dental Admissions Test) or other examinations.
