Study a Master of Diagnostic Pathology at UC and you will: develop an advanced level of knowledge and skills in diagnostic testing relevant to haematology, tissue processing and microtomy, medical microbiology, blood transfusion and other disciplines have an advanced knowledge of the use of quality systems in the clinical laboratory, the metabolism and functions of common hormones and electrolytes, and pathophysiological alterations pertinent to human biochemistry describe the cellular and molecular mechanisms of genetic modification and relate these to the generation of genetic diversity and disorders have an advanced knowledge of point-of-care testing and its applications in disease screening and monitoring at the point of patient care and beyond understand how to safely and appropriately collect a range of biological specimens for analysis including, but not limited to, blood and urine.

Admission Requirements Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: A) Hold a bachelor degree in medical science, or related discipline*, with a credit or higher average B) Hold a bachelor degree in medical science, or related discipline* and have a minimum of two years relevant work experience** C) Hold a completed graduate certificate or graduate diploma in diagnostic pathology. *A related discipline is biomedical science, medical laboratory science, pharmacy **Relevant work experience is paid work undertaken in the capacity as a medical scientist or laboratory technical officer in a pathology laboratory (e.g. clinical diagnostic laboratory) in areas other than reception and blood collection. Admission to this course is competitive. Applications will be assessed on the basis of academic merit and the number of available places. Additional Admission Requirements This course requires students to undertake clinical placements in health facilities and applicants will be required to adhere to the relevant policies.
