Overview
The university is a major centre for satellite and mobile communications research. In March 2014, the British Prime Minister David Cameron announced a partnership between the University of Surrey, King's College London and the University of Dresden for the development of 5G technology.
The annual income of the institution for 2016–17 was £267.3 million of which £40.3 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £260.9 million.
Entry requirements
Foundation Year is mandatory for undergraduate admission.
For postgraduate taught courses, a Specialist Diploma and Baklavar will all be considered as suitable qualifications for entry depending on grades and subjects studied.
To apply for one of postgraduate courses that require a UK 2:1, you must achieve a GPA of 4.1 our of 5.0.
For courses that require a UK 2:2, you must achieve a GPA of 3.9 out of 5.0.
For courses that require a UK first-class degree to be eligible for a scholarship, you must achieve an overall GPA of 4.3 out of 5.0.
Scholarship & funding
Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Merit Scholarship
Merit-based scholarship provides a £2,000 cash award and membership of Surrey Sports Park for the first year (Level 4) of study for eligible direct-entry undergraduate students on one of the following programmes:
- Computer and Internet Engineering BEng (Hons) / MEng
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering BEng (Hons) / MEng
- Electronic Engineering BEng (Hons) / MEng
- Electronic Engineering with Computer Systems BEng (Hons) / MEng
- Electronic Engineering with Nanotechnology BEng (Hons) / MEng
- Electronic Engineering with Space Systems BEng (Hons) / MEng.
Discounts for Surrey graduates
If you are a fully self-funded UK, EU or international student who has studied for an undergraduate degree at the University of Surrey campus in Guildford, you may be eligible for a 10 per cent discount on our taught postgraduate masters programme fees.
This scheme is applicable to 2018 and 2019 postgraduate taught entry students who are not in receipt of any other University of Surrey scholarship or discount or any external sponsorship
Michael Schenker Scholarship
The Michael Schenker Scholarship provides £3,000 a year for up to five years, including a Professional Training placement if taken. The Scholarship aims to encourage and support undergraduate students on the Civil Engineering BEng (Hons) or MEng degree programme at the University of Surrey:
- Civil Engineering BEng (Hons) or MEng
Students can receive the Michael Schenker Scholarship in addition to a University Merit Scholarship as well as any other bursary, prize and award for which they are eligible, if successful.
Hospitality and Tourism Management Prestige Scholarship
This prestigious Surrey award for overseas fee paying Hospitality and Tourism Management undergraduates is aimed at high achievers and recognises academic excellence in your high school or equivalent leaving exams.
£5,000 scholarship in the form of a tuition fee waiver in year 1.
International Scholarship for Engineering and Physical Sciences
To be eligible, applicants must hold an offer to study a full-time MSc course in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Surrey, where will award £5,000 for offer holders achieving a UK first-class honours (or international equivalent) and £2,500 for those achieving a UK 2:1 with honours (or international equivalent)
International Scholarship for Excellence
Awards are available for international applicants to all eligible* postgraduate taught courses starting in September 2019 within the Surrey Business School, the School of Economics, the School of Law and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
