The programme is the oldest in Dublin and is known for its dedicated staff and diverse student body. We welcome students from all over the world, as well as those with different career experiences, and those who have studied very different subjects at the undergraduate level. Our intellectual approach is also diverse. We see international relations as the meeting point of diverse theoretical, disciplinary, and geographical perspectives.
In the first semester, the core introductory subjects are offered in small classes that offer students an intellectual toolkit to use throughout the course, and also help the students to get to know each other. In the second semester, students can choose from the many optional modules developed specially for the MA in International Relations, as well as modules from a host of other programmes in international relations, security studies, public policy, and law. These normally include issues such as international politics, human rights, the economy, communications, trade, area studies, and environmental protection. Students also write a dissertation of up to 15,000 words, and receive support in doing so from the beginning of the course, including one-to-one supervision.
The programme welcomes students from around the world, and many have worked in conflict or security in some way. Some have studied very different undergraduate degrees but have a real interest in the subject. Our lecturers are themselves researching areas such as political economy, human rights, conflict resolution, post-war reconstruction, transitional justice, and regional studies. The classroom is a space for lively debate – it’s your chance to explore and learn together.
Core subjects in the first semester help to set out the foundations of security, conflict, and peace. In the second semester you will find a wide range of optional modules on offer. These normally include development, trade, human rights, political terrorism, climate change, gender, and area studies such as Asia or Africa. You will also write a dissertation of up to 15,000 words, for which there is support from the beginning of the course, including one-to-one supervision.
The course is a four-year, full time Honours degree which trains learners for a life as a professional performing musician. The programme covers a wide range of musical techniques including performance, instrumental technique, improvisation, composition, computer music, aural training, arranging and pedagogical studies, giving the participants the skills necessary to operate in a wide area of contemporary music, not just jazz. All of the subjects in the course are geared towards training young musicians to the highest international standards and to be fully equipped to work in the world of contemporary music both here and abroad.
The programme focuses on three essentials: practical skills such as video, audio and writing for different platforms (digital, social, print and broadcast); knowledge of people, institutions and ethical principles needed as context; and academic studies of law, politics and society to sharpen student's critical thinking.
The programme provides wide-ranging training and education for those interested in the profession of journalism and related fields. It balances practical, theoretical, technical and analytical elements to address the changing media environment and the new, and increasingly diverse, demands being made on entrants to journalism. Upon completion you will have the in-depth knowledge and aptitude to pursue a successful journalism career.

In response to the changing needs of educational provision in healthcare practice and stakeholder consultation, the School of Nursing and Human Sciences has developed a postgraduate educational framework for nurses and other healthcare practitioners. The programme includes modules predominantly focused on practice embedded elements. It is anticipated that students will normally be working a minimum of 20hrs per week in an area related to their intended focus of study, e.g. recovery oriented practice, the management of long term illness, community/primary care, intellectual disability and concurrent mental health problems, care of the older person or care of the child and adolescent. This programme will further develop your analytical skills, and provide an educational framework to deliver optimum care to individuals, families and communities, as well as improving the quality of healthcare practice in the Irish healthcare system.
